Your Subconscious Mind...
Your subconscious mind only knows 'what is' and it cannot comprehend the past or the future. It also can't distinguish between reality and imagination…
Have you ever played something over and over in your mind? An event that has happened and you'd wished you had dealt with it in a different way?
You play it over in your mind - but you find yourself having physical reactions, and feeling as if it is happening all over again.
For example: If, one day, you were feeling low or passive and didn't defend yourself in an argument... You probably felt upset at the time or immediately after... So you play it over in your mind. And in your replay, you visualise sticking up for yourself... Even becoming verbal and bordering on being aggressive.
You will have the feelings as though it was happening to you right now! You will probably show signs of it by going red in the face, having sweaty palms or your heart might be racing.
These are typical responses generated by your subconscious mind.
Similarly;
For example: Somebody asked you a question that you didn't want to answer... Like: how much do you earn... or, how heavy are you then... or, how much money do you owe?
Obviously, the list of uncomfortable questions is endless!
You might instantly answer - giving them the correct answer... Then, you would be really annoyed with yourself - asking yourself... ‘why did I tell them, what has it got to do with them’!!??
Or
You may lie to them... Then you would worry that they have seen straight through the lie and that you have made yourself look stupid!
Either way, you will feel anxiety!
This is because, when you re-live an experience in your mind, your subconscious mind believes you’re experiencing the situation all over again - right now - and so it generates its defensive responses. This then gives you - all the bad feelings associated with a 'life threatening' situation.
Even though it wasn’t you that did anything wrong in the first place, you still feel bad and worry!
By learning to understand how your subconscious mind works, you can learn how to control those feelings and help keep anxiety and stress under control.
Moving On...
A friend of mine called the other day and told me she wanted to end a 30 year relationship.
Why? I asked. You're inseparable! You go everywhere together. You've been together since you were 14. You always said he makes you feel good when nothing else can. You said he has a calming effect on you??
I know, she said. But I have realised now he is no good for me. I don't feel well at all when I am with him. I feel quite ill. He makes me feel ill and he doesn't care. I've lost so many friends because of him. My friends just don't like him. They avoid me when I'm with him.
We can't even go to nice places anymore. He is banned from every single pub and restaurant that we used to go to. But he doesn't care! He is happy standing out in the cold so long as it is just me and him.
He smells as well! she said, People pretend they don't notice but I know they do. He makes the house smell too. And because I spend so much time with him, I smell. It's horrible!
I looked in the mirror the other day. I have aged so much! He has made me age. I'm only 44 but I look 60. I've got so many lines on my face. My skin is dull and so are my eyes. All my radiance has gone.
He has taken my money over the years too; Even when I needed other things. He has taken so much. I could have had nice holidays, gone for relaxing facials, done lots of nice things.
How much money has he taken? I asked.
About forty thousand pounds, she said.
Oh my God! You could have paid off your mortgage!
I know, she said, I'm ending it, now!! No more! Enough is enough! He is history!!!

Hypnosis...
Hypnosis is a very natural altered state of consciousness (like day-dreaming), one that everybody will experience from time to time in which the mind remains alert, clear and focused on something.
You have probably experienced this feeling; While driving to work or a regular destination (as a passenger or driver), you will arrive at a point in the journey not remembering how you got there. You have actually been driving on autopilot without taking in details of the trip. This is the same kind of altered awareness as hypnosis.
You may have heard some preconceived ideas about hypnosis that it's frightening and it feels very weird; Its actually very normal and very pleasant!
Hypnotherapy...
Hypnotherapy is a very powerful and affective method to facilitate positive change. It allows suggestions to get through to your subconscious mind without having the conscious mind reject them.
This does not mean that you would do anything you didn't want to do whilst under hypnosis, the moment that a suggestion was given to you that went against what you morally thought was right, you would come straight out of hypnosis and the rapport with the therapist would be broken.
The reason that hypnotherapy is so successful is that it works with your subconscious mind, bypassing the Conscious Critical Faculty (CCF) (this is the barrier that stands between the conscious and the subconscious mind and it stops anything at all getting through that is not already in your belief system).
Your subconscious mind hates change but by bypassing your CCF you are receptive to new ideas and suggestions; And once these ideas are accepted, they are not easily removed. This gives you - through hypnosis - the ability to change the habits and behaviour to make positive changes to your life.
